A PET-MRI scan combines the anatomic imaging of MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) with the functional imaging of PET (positron emission tomography) in one session. It creates a very detailed 3D image of the inside of the body.

A PET-MRI scan is done to know the location of cancer and to find out how big it is. It is also used in various neurological and cardiac conditions. The scan is helpful in planning the treatment and checking out how well the treatment is working.
